No. You can access a psychologist privately without a Mental Health Treatment Plan. However, a Mental Health Treatment Plan may allow you to access a Medicare rebate if you meet the relevant eligibility requirements.

Medicare rebates may be available for eligible clients with an appropriate Mental Health Treatment Plan or other eligible referral pathway.

Bellingen Psychology provides services to eligible NDIS participants who are self-managed or plan-managed. Bellingen Psychology is not a registered NDIS provider and therefore cannot directly claim through the NDIA portal for NDIA-managed participants.

Bellingen Psychology may provide psychological services under relevant Workers Compensation arrangements where the required approval and referral arrangements are in place.

The initial appointment provides an opportunity to discuss what has brought you to therapy, understand your current circumstances and identify what you would like support with.

Yes. Bellingen Psychology currently provides secure telehealth appointments across NSW, allowing clients to access psychological support without needing to travel to Bellingen.

Yes. A substantial body of research supports telehealth as equally effective for a wide range of presentations, including anxiety, depression, burnout, and stress. For many people, the flexibility and consistency of online sessions supports better attendance and, over time, better outcomes.

No referral is needed to book a session. If you would like to access the Medicare rebate, you will need a Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP before your first appointment.

If telehealth is not appropriate for your circumstances or clinical needs, this can be discussed during the initial process and alternative support may be recommended where appropriate.
